A superior cultural and historical guide to Turkey. Chapters dedicated to important cities and sites of interest are concise to fit in this pocket-sized, beautifully illustrated book. This guide lists no hotels, restaurants, etc.
A standard Travel Survival Kit with very good practical information but somewhat cursory description of the sights. For those not addicted to Lonely Planet, we recommend the Rough Guide as much the better general guide.
Much the best general guide to Turkey with accurate practical information and intelligent coverage of the sights. It even covers the east of the country in remarkable depth. Highly recommended.
Essays on history and culture are followed by a thorough regional survey, all supported by a wealth of photographs. As such, this makes an excellent introduction to the country and aid to planning. We would rather carry around, however, a Rough Guide.
The best - hotels, restaurants, bars, clubs and shops - of Istanbul described and rated. The title is off-putting (to us) but within the limits it sets itself, this is a very good little guide.
Tiny print on a fold out card presents the smartest in "shopping, dining and lifestyle" all written in breathless style. Customers swear by these guides, principally for the trendy shopping advice.
Intelligent cultural guide that is much the best introduction for the serious sightseer. Elegantly descriptive and thorough - it covers Edirne, Bursa and Iznik as well - it is highly recommended.
These very popular guides, with their photos and excellent mapping, give a really good overview of the city which makes exploring easy. The drawback is that once having got you to a place the supplemental information is a bit limited. Usefully, it covers excursions outside Istanbul as far as Edirne and Bursa and has a detachable map of Istanbul.
Listings based guide, i.e. all the restaurants are reviewed together rather than being arranged by area. This guide excels in its practical information but is more limited as a sight-seeing companion.
A lovely walking guide to the monuments and sites of Istanbul accompanied by stories and a history of the city. Perfect for the sightseer although should be bought alongside a practical guide and a decent map.
A 500km walking route along the Turkish coast and this is the official route guide. It includes deatiled route descriptions, information on historical sites and a detachable map.
One of 3 useful little guides to the west coast. They are work as decent general guides but are most valuable for their description of well planned walks and excursions.

The only guide to the 500 km waymarked, long distance walking route from Perge/Aspendos to Antioch along the Tauris. Complete with a map, any half way serious walker should at least sample parts of the dramatically beautiful route. A companion to her Lycian Way.
A new guide to Damascus. Footprint includes detailed recommended sights in each quarter; hotels, restaurants and practical transport tips for exploring the immediate vicinity.
The best general guide, well written and informative, balancing practical help with intelligent, concise coverage of the sights. To be much preferred over the Lonely Planet.
