Job vacancy for a senior position, Daunt Books Publishing

We are looking for a new person to join our publishing department. This is an exciting multi-skilled role for someone who is ready to take the next step in their career and has the flair and passion required to help run a successful and ambitious literary imprint.

Job description:

  • Working with the Publisher on all aspects of running the imprint and list
  • Commissioning books for the list, both backlist and new titles
  • Seeing titles through the publishing process from the acquisition and contract stage to editing, production and cover design, marketing and publicity, and sales; and be able to liaise with various departments and freelancers
  • Planning and executing publicity and marketing campaigns for individual titles (previous publicity and marketing experience is not essential, but tenacity and gusto are)
  • Writing excellent copy for cover copy, AIs and sales presentations
  • Compiling sales reports and calculating royalties
  • Maintaining and growing the imprint’s digital presence
  • Bookselling (one day a week, with flexibility when required), developing familiarity with the market and company (no prior bookselling experience needed)

Essential skills include:

  • Industry experience (3 years minimum), including some in editorial
  • Highly efficient, organised and proactive
  • Attention to detail and a good head for numbers
  • Highly responsible, with an ability to work closely with others in a small team and manage junior colleagues
  • Clear and innovative strategic thinking
  • Able to take a proactive approach to commissioning and originating new ideas and projects
  • Creative marketing and administrative skills, with an eye for design
  • Charm and gravitas, demonstrating the ability to work with and win over agents and authors
  • Appreciation of a broad spectrum of literary interests
  • An energetic and flexible approach to work, with an ability to work well under pressure and to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work within specified budgets

This is not an entry level job. Salary and title dependent on experience.
