French-Tunisian writer Colette Fellous’ first book to be published in English, This Tilting World, is set in the aftermath of the 2015 massacre on the beach at Sousse. In a heart-broken adieu that is also a love letter to her native country, the memory of her late father resurfaces and, with it, the story of Tunisia’s Jewish community. Colette will be chatting about the book with her translator, Sophie Lewis, and with award-winning author Michèle Roberts.
‘Crossing boundaries of form, This Tilting World is a memoir, an elegy, a love song, a family history full of holes. Colette Fellous writes as a witness, a citizen, an exile, a detective, a daughter, an explorer, a lover. Moving in memory back and forth between Tunisia and France, between childhood, adolescence and adulthood, she makes everything seem part of an urgent now.’ Michèle Roberts
