Friday 16th March 2018 at 10:00am  |  Daunt Books Marylebone

Join other book-lovers for a stroll around Regent’s Park with bookseller and writer Emily Rhodes to discuss The Lonely Londoners, Sam Selvon’s eye-opening novel of the Windrush generation.

Henry ‘Sir Galahad’ Oliver is one of a vibrant cast of characters, who have come to London from the West Indies, determined to make their way in this lonely but exciting city, and overcome the many challenges of migrant life. Sam Selvon tells their stories with an ear for their rhythms of speech and an eye for the revealing detail; the message is powerfully affecting, but the book is leavened by Selvon’s bright sense of humour. The Lonely Londoners is a masterful portrait of its time, which gains a new resonance in today’s political climate.
