Courageous Women, Unusual Stories..
Please join us for a fascinating evening of discussions, readings and book signings with local authors Stephanie Bretherton, Caitlin Davies and Miranda Gold.
From prehistoric shamans and pioneering scientists to a feisty Victorian swimmer who became champion of the world and an adoptive mother of a wartime refugee: three local authors talk about the courageous characters in their novels – and the challenging journey to publication.
Caitlin Davies is a novelist, non-fiction writer, journalist, and teacher. She’s also an outdoor swimmer, whether in the Hampstead ponds, the mighty River Thames or the glorious sea in Margate, and all three settings feature prominently in Daisy Belle.
Miranda Gold‘s first novel, Starlings, published by Karnac in December 2016, reaches back through three generations to explore how the impact of untold stories about the Holocaust ricochets down the years. Before turning her focus to fiction, Miranda took the Soho Theatre Course for young writers, where her play, Lucky Deck, was selected for development and performance. A Small Dark Quiet is her second novel.
“Gracefully written, carefully researched, and always alert to the issues it raises, the dual narrative of Stephanie Bretherton’s debut novel reaches far across time to relate the interwoven stories of two women – a genetic scientist addressing the complexities of contemporary experience, and one of our earliest ancestors as she engages in a physical and spiritual ordeal of survival. Bone Lines is a brave and moving adventure of the imagination.” – Lindsay Clarke, author of The Chymical Wedding
