It is a pleasure to welcome back philosopher AC Grayling to come and speak on his timely consideration of the concept of war in today's world. This slender book encompasses not only war in history and theory and its affect on societies but also just war theory and the possibility for ethical conduct in conflict. AC Grayling is master of the New College of Humanities and a fellow of St Anne's College, Oxford. He has written and edited over thirty books on philosophy and other subjects.

“AC Grayling here provides a highly original philosophical analysis of organised violence...he constantly provokes us to think about profound problems in new ways” - Ian Morris, author of Why the West Rules for Now
