Les Miserables has become the most widely-read and frequently adapted book on stage and on film of all time. But why does this nineteenth century tale of love and revolution continue to exert such a pull? David Bellos will be over from Princeton to tell us more of his fascinating biography of a masterpiece, tracing Victor Hugo's own journey through a turbulent France and political exile to strike a fabulous deal for the book's publication. Chatting to David we welcome back the Guardian literary critic, Nick Lezard.
