Elizabeth Jane Howard is best-known for her hugely enjoyable five volume saga The Cazalet Chronicles, a humane and brilliantly-observed portrait of life and love in England from the war years to the end of the century. She was also at the heart of the literary establishment, famously the lover of Arthur Koestler and Laurie Lee and wife of Kingsley Amis. Following her wonderful recent account of the life of Patrick Leigh Fermor, Artemis Cooper’s new book skilfully shows how Elizabeth Jane Howard sought to make sense of her life through her novels whilst also illuminating the fascinating literary circles in which she moved.
Artemis will be in conversation with literary biographer Selina Hastings, whose most recent book The Red Earl, considers her father’s remarkable life.
